Laser Pain Treatments

Laser pain treatments, also known as cold laser therapy or low-level laser therapy, are a promising form of pain relief that provides an alternative to potentially addictive pharmaceutical prescription drugs. Laser pain treatments have become popular in the world of professional sports and are used by many teams in the NBA, NHL, NFL, and MLB. Laser pain treatments are recommended for a wide variety of ailments, including acute and chronic pain, muscle strain, ligament sprains, tendonitis, arthritis, soft tissue injuries, bursitis, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, and to facilitate wound healing.

Parkside Chiropractic in Columbus, WI, offers cold laser therapy as one option among various treatment approaches that can help alleviate symptoms of pain without the use of drugs or surgery. Dr. Debbie Oldenburg and Dr. Timothy Kirchberg are a married couple who have been providing expert chiropractic care to the Columbus, WI, area since June 1993. In December 2021, Parkside Chiropractic welcomed Dr. Jessica Waterworth to the practice.

How Does Cold Laser Therapy Work?

Cold lasers are small handheld devices that generate specific wavelengths of light near an infrared frequency. This is a process called photobiomodulation. During the procedure, the doctor will place the laser directly over the area of injury for 30 seconds to several minutes, depending upon the size of the treatment area and the depth of the injury. When the wavelengths of light are absorbed by the cells in the body, this helps the body increase the production of cellular energy. As a result, the increased energy helps the body reduce inflammation in the targeted area and clear away damaged cells. Many patients experience pain relief, reduced muscle spasms and tightness, enhanced flexibility and mobility of the joints, and quicker recovery times from injuries as the body’s ability to heal itself improves.

Laser pain treatments are available in Columbus at Parkside Chiropractic. Upon your first visit, the doctor will conduct a comprehensive physical exam and overview your medical history and lifestyle. Cold laser therapy may be recommended in concurrence with other chiropractic healing modalities such as shockwave therapies, therapeutic ultrasound, ice pack cryotherapy and spinal decompression.
